Sectors Addresses

LBA addresses.

  • maps the physical sectors of the drive.

  • the first sector is always 0 (zero).

  • it cannot be used to address volume sectors.

    • a volume is a collection of sectors, but.

    • may not be consecutive and can even be in different drives.

Layers of addresses.

  • physical address.

  • logical disk volume addresses – equal to the physical address.

  • logical volume partition addresses – each partition has its own address space.
