Authentication metaprotocols

Generic authentication protocols that encapsulate other authentication protocols.

Examples:

• EAP (Extensible Authentication Protocol).

  • Used in 802.1X (WiFi, enterprise mode).

  • e.g. PEAP (Protected EAP) and EAP-TLS run over EAP.

• ISAKMP(Internet Security Association and Key Management Protocol).

  • Formerly used in IPSec.

  • e.g. IKE v1 (Internet Key Exchange) runs over ISAKMP.
